Following is an invitation from Luis Antonio Romahn, the Director General of the Congress:

Mexico is a country of more than 120 million inhabitants and a territorial extension of almost two million square km. The migratory phenomenon from the countryside to the cities and the urban services that these offer, have transformed the life of our country in the last decades. What role do urban parks and public spaces play in this complex urban reality? Health, economy, citizen participation, sports, culture, environment, crime prevention, recreation and tourism are some of the issues surrounding urban parks and public spaces.

The 1st International Congress of Urban Parks will address all these issues and many more at an unprecedented event in Mexico and Latin America. We are preparing a world-class congress around urban parks, hosting professionals, public officials, NGOs, real estate developers, politicians, the equipment industry and students to discuss the new realities of public space in Mexico and Latin America. Challenges, new forms of administration, maintenance, fundraising, design, planning, best practices and success stories will be discussed for three days in the beautiful city of Mérida and its parks.

The social reality in Mexico and Latin America forces us to take different actions on public goods. Public space is one of the most important components in the social and urban configuration of cities. We invite you to take the opportunity receive knowledge and training at the most specialized event on urban parks and public spaces.

More than 75 national and international speakers will interact with attendees in more than 50 educational sessions. There will also be eight lectures, workshops, social events and a commercial sample of more than 100 companies awaiting you in April 2018 in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.
