Introduction

World Urban Parks Africa-Middle East Region is one of four regions intended to enhance member activity with related conferences, seminars, technical tours, working parties, and face to face meetings and networking.  The Africa-Middle East Region includes the African Continent and Middle-East nations between the Mediterranean and Arabian Seas.

The Board has approved a Terms of Reference for Regional Committees to represent members and coordinate activity. To ensure direct communication with the Board the Chair of the Europe Region is a Board director. Initially the Chair is an appointed First Director and will be supported by an appointed Committee member as an Africa-Middle East Region Committee Secretary. Around June 2016 full members from the Region's countries will elect the Chair. The Committee will approve committee members during 2016. There will likely be opportunities for the Africa-Middle East Region Committees to meet face to face at a partnered conference or other event at least annually, and otherwise by web conference.

Africa-Middle East Region Congress and Events

World Urban Parks Africa-Middle East Region is a new region under development. The close proximity of countries and members will provide a number of opportunities to attend programmed events and activities at reduced travel costs.

The main opportunity for members from this region is the 2016 World Urban Parks Congress in Cape Town, South Africa from 26 to 28 September in partnership with the Institute of Environment and Recreation Management (IERM).

Africa-Middle East National Ambassadors

National Ambassadors (previously 'Commissioners') are appointed for the first 1-2 years of World Urban Parks in an ambassadorial role to assist new and transitioning members from their country. These are experienced and well-connected professionals. Where countries have national professional/peak parks, open space, and/or recreation associations that are members of World Urban Parks, these will also be a source of assistance to members.
